For the first three measurements connect a 50 ohm load to the RF connector.
For the amplifier NF measurement connect the output of the amplifier to the RF connector and terminate the input of the amplifier with a 50 ohm load. Make sure the amplifier is stable and does not oscillate as an oscillating high power amplifier can easily destroy the tinySA.
Execute all these steps in the order listed. As all these steps measure, noise some time should be allowed for the required averaging.
- MEASURE TINYSA NF measures the tinySA NOISE FIGURE at the specified frequency. Once the measurement is completed the STORE TINYSA NF step is selected
- STORE TINYSA NF stores the measured NOISE FIGURE. Keep in mind the NF of the tinySA depends on the frequency selected so a stored NF is only correct for the frequency selected. Once stored the VALIDATE TINYSA NF step is selected
- VALIDATE TINYSA NF validates the correctness of the measurement. This uses the stored NF of the tinySA to measure the NF of the 50 ohm load which should be zero. A +/- 0.5 dB deviation is acceptable. Once the NF is validated you can use the MEASURE AMP NF step.
- MEASURE AMP NF measures the NOISE FIGURE of an amplifier. The amplifier will be measured at the previously selected frequency and you have to enter the gain of the amplifier as accurate as possible. Any error in the specified amplifier gain will equally impact the measured NF.
